Post Office Conspiracy

I mailed some packages yesterday and found out some very interesting information.

Postage is going up.

Okay, I'm sure that was not a big surprise, but for someone who still hasn't sent out her 2007 Christmas cards, that will make an impact. Or at least give me a deadline.

But the really interesting fact is that when you mail a package parcel post, in addition to asking you if there is anything fragile, breakable, flammable, or radio-active (oh, I kid, but it does seem like that is the next question to be asked), you are now asked if you included a note or a letter.

Why?

So they can charge you an extra $0.41! It was explained to me that if I mailed it Priority they would not require the extra postage.

What a scam!!!!

So, Jodi, your package is coming with a note - that I paid $0.41 extra for, but Juliet, yours is not...it's a matter of principle!!

And as of May 12th, it will cost you $0.42!

You've got to be kidding...raising postage again?! I'm still working on the roll of stamps I bought two stamp prices ago...I had to buy some two-centers to go with them so I could use them on Christmas cards. With all our bills being paid without having to write checks these days, our stamp usage is definitely not what it used to be.
The post office is really trusting people to be honest with their parcel posts with notes, so they can make another 41 cents! Wow!

Thanks for your comment tonight Jen! And I feel better now too. I thought I was the only person who hadn't mailed out our 2007 Christmas cards yet! LOL! Let's have a race and see who can get them mailed first, OK? Ready, steady, GO!

Yeah, and people like me that would feel guilty if we didn't tell them there was a letter inside get charged $0.41!

And DeeDee...you might win if yours are mailed before May 12th!

This makes me feel old. I remember when the cost of a stamp used to be 19 cents!!! It doesn't seem right that they raise the cost of postage about once a year. It's just not right I tell ya!

I need to go buy me some more of those "forever" stamps! LOVE those things!

They must REALLY want to lose our business!
