I have to wonder how many people really knew what they were singing last night. Amazing to hear, great to get national attention, but was it missing the element of worship?
Yes, they did leave out the word "Jesus", but c'mon people, these are unsaved people singing praise to God! Do we really expect them to act like Christians??
Seeing this on national TV, made me think of the verse (sorry in a hurry - I'll look it up later and fill in) that talks about the rocks crying out in praise to God. Have I been too silent with my praise?

How do you know they are unsaved?
Leaving out the word "Jesus" does not mean they are not acting like Christians...I've heard a lot of Christians use the word "Jesus" in ways that it should never be used.
It was very interesting to hear that, wasn't it? I wondered about who had made the decision to sing that song. And I thought that at least a few (if not the majority) of the singers probably had never heard it before and may have no idea it's sung in churches across the world. None-the-less, it was nice to hear.
Ok, I have taped this but haven't seen it yet. This is one of the weirdest things I ever seen. I don't even know what to with this. I am anxious to get home and check this out.

My thoughts this afternoon were quick, so I did not take the time to thouroughly explain my thoughts or respond to a lot of things I heard about last night's performance.
I think it is safe to assume that statistically speaking, not everyone on stage singing "Shout to the Lord" was a Christian. I wasn't meaning to imply that by using the name "Jesus" that they were then acting like Christians. What I was commenting on really was the big outcry that seems to be happening over that song being sung on AI and the words being changed.
#1. You don't have to be a Christian to sing that song.
#2. Christians should expect adoration to God from a non-christian.
My ultimate point is that they could have pick any song and they picked that one - amazing. They took out the name Jesus. Still an amazing song. If it causes people to listen and maybe think about then words, then great.

The saddest thing is that most of the people on that stage probably had no idea what that promise is!! May God use the song to touch their hearts for Him!!

Hi, I'm the one who posted this on YouTube which is how I found your blog on the "Sites linking to this video" section.
From what I've read and seen, I'm pretty sure Jason is saved. He and his family are active at Lake Pointe Church in Texas. There are videos of him singing there on YouTube if your interested.
I don't know about the others. I am a Jason fan and I am saved. So I've done my research in that area :)
I loved hearing the song, no matter what venue. Your link to travis cotrell was a good discussion about it. Also, I was sorry to miss Paula's complete sentence. Where was I?????
AmeeTee - thank you for putting this up on YouTube. I too had heard that Jason was a Christian. I certainly am in no position to say who is and isn't, I was just speaking statitically.
BTW - Last night's rendition was very beatuiful. For those of you with a DVR, if you watch the very beginning of the song when Jason is not singing with the mic, you'll see he is mouthing the words. No matter what the venue...that song still bring tears to my eyes. Thank you Jesus!!

Hey Jenn~ Did you watch Thursday night???? They sang it again and sang Jesus that time. It was neat to hear that song and am really curious to find out what prompted them to choose it for AI. Interesting, huh???
We turned the TV off early Wed. because our kids needed to go to bed, so I missed that. Then I missed Thurs. when they sang it with the name "Jesus."
I'm with you. I'm sure they are not all Christians (I'm pretty sure two of them are LDS), but God can be glorified from the words. It's cool that a song praising Him was broadcast on television with a viewing audience that large. Who knows how many hurting and searching people needed to hear the words to that song!

To be honest, I didn't even think about whether or not the individuals singing were saved or not, I was just too excited that they were singing a worship song on national tv on a show like AI [even if it was their own rendition lol]. Individual contestants like Mandeesa have sang gospel songs on that stage but this was the first time they sang a worship song as a group, praise God! I was also really excited when a few weeks back the visiting band on AI [don't know their name] was rockin to 'Jesus is on the mainline!'
On a side note, I was introduced to gospel music by my friends during my SR in college two years before I got saved [I grew up in a Muslim home]. My roommate and suitemaites were saved and I used to overhear the music they played day and day out. Even though I didn't understand the true meaning behind the words at the time because, well, I had never heard of Jesus, they gave me solace during some of the darkest times in my life and I truly believe that is where the seed was planted for me to know Who the singers were talking about. I say that to say that many were blessed by that performance, saved and unsaved, a seed was planted somewhere, and most of all, God was glorified. Amen!

Jenn, totally different topic here. I wanted you to know my readers voted the name 'Meredith' the number one name on my list of baby names! Chrisie had encouraged me to add that one as it was similar to some others I liked. Not sure what we'll pick, but it's a great name.
